Maybe we should stop sending Matt Damon into space to scout out planets.

Between Interstellar and The Martian, it’s apparently a rough time to be Matt Damon in space right now. But similarities (and Ridley’s Scott’s recent filmography – dear god Exodus: Gods & Kings) aside,  The Martian is shaping up to be one of the more interesting films of 2015, and courtesy of Entrada Numerada, we’ve got our first look at Matt Damon in action:

I’m digging this a lot. Loving the colors and saturation, and the palpable texture of the suit and Damon’s distant surroundings. And obviously Damon is a cool guy – I have hope for this movie.

Telling the story of astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon), who after being hit by a fierce storm on Mars is separated from his crew and stranded on the desolate planet, The Martian focuses on Watney’s lonesome journey of survival (sound familiar?) and his crew’s attempts to save him. The film also has an all-star cast including Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover. Like damn.

Normally I’d be far more hesitant about anything Scott touches after his recent endeavours (Exodus in particular, what a bore), but working with a cast this stellar and a screenplay by Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods), all Ridley’s got to do is apply some of the mood and atmosphere he’s good at (i.e. The Counsellor) and we might have something truly great headed our way this November.

What do you guys make of this?
