With feet.
I love Nicolas Winding Refn. He’s a strange breed of anti-artist that doubles as an artistic genius, always testing and provoking his audience in strange ways. His films don’t always work, but when they do (i.e. Bronson) they are unlike anything else. His most recent, Only God Forgives – basically working as a giant middle-finger to those that jumped on his bandwagon post-Drive – was his most divisive yet so clearly he’s still got the provocation in him, and that’s what’s got me excited for his upcoming venture The Neon Demon.
Just about to finish shooting in LA, The Neon Demon is Refn’s horror film starring Elle Fanning as a young model who moves to LA to be a star but instead finds herself being hunted by a bunch of older, superficial women who want to devour her for her beauty and innocence. It’s like a Grimm fairytale meets Hollywood – that sounds pretty terrifying to me, and today we got our first look at it (and Refn’s feet):
Yup, looks like Winding Refn. It’s got all the extravagant colors and bizarre designs you’d expect and he even threw himself (and his feet) in there for good measure. Not much going on in the way of reveals but with Jena Malone, Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves alongside Fanning it’s safe to say The Neon Demon is one of my more anticipated films of 2016.
What do you make of this?
