From the guys that brought you exactly what you’re thinking.
Sausage Party premiered a work-in-progress cut over the weekend at SXSW in addition to releasing the first trailer for the film. Seth Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg have name-dropped the project on numerous occasions but this is the first time we’re seeing actual store-bought footage. Boasting a massive cast that includes Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Michael Cera and many more of the usual suspects, Sausage Party looks to be very much a party. And a wildly inappropriate one at that. Check out the RED BAND trailer below:
The vibe I’m getting here is that Sausage Party aims to be Toy Story but with food, just swap out the end goal of the love of a child for a greasy, innuendo filled orgy. And just like Sid’s nefarious toy dismemberment, some of this food is going to get seriously savaged in the process.
I’m not sure I’m entirely sold on the look of the film, it’s awkwardly caught between the charm of Claymation and the generic look of an early 2000’s Dreamworks project. But odds are this will be a hilarious summer hit, begging you to not think about the popcorn you’re massacring.
Sausage Party comes to theaters August 12.
