Chris Pratt Inspiring Journey: Marvel icon Chris Pratt is set to appear in Mark Dindal’s comedy Garfield, slated for a 2024 release, and Rus so Brothers’ Netflix sci-fi The Electric State. Currently enjoying the peak of his career and married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, Pratt’s path to Hollywood stardom was anything but smooth. The actor’s inspiring journey from waiting tables to becoming a box office sensation reveals a story of tenacity, grit, and dreams coming true.
Pratt’s filmography is about to expand as he is set to star in Mark Dindal’s comedy *Garfield*, set to release on May 24, 2024. He will also be seen in the Russo Brothers’ upcoming Netflix sci-fi film *The Electric State*. This caps a remarkable journey for the actor, who once struggled to pay the bills by serving food at a restaurant.
Pratt, who has become a household name with his role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers franchise, says, “It’s like I’ve crossed over this line where I actually say no to stuff,” reflecting on his rise to stardom. “I could never have fathomed that. Before, I would have done commercials for herpes medication if you wanted me to, just as long as I didn’t have to wait tables again.”
Pratt, 44, recalls growing up in a small town of 7,000 people in Virginia, Minnesota. His family often had to rely on a food bank to make ends meet. He also remembers working as a waiter to provide for his family. “We had some economic hard times, and I’m not ashamed to say that there were moments when my family would need to eat from a food bank,” said the actor.
Around the year 2000, Pratt was working as a waiter in Maui’s Bubba Gump Shrimp Company when he met actor-director Rae Dawn Chong. The meeting turned out to be a pivotal point in his career. Pratt was soon featured in Chong’s short film *Cursed Part 3*, which laid the groundwork for his future in acting. “Originally, the dream was to pay my bills doing nothing other than acting. I got there, but the dream is constantly evolving,” Pratt mentioned in an interview.
His dreams have clearly evolved from his time as a struggling actor. Pratt confessed that he had a keen interest in comic books and once spent $300 on them, including a copy of Guardians of the Galaxy, years before landing the iconic role. “Then my dream was to do roles that are more than just the bad guy or the douche. Then it was to do sidekick roles, then comedy,” said Pratt.
Chris Pratt’s struggle did not break him; it shaped him. Talking to The Independent, he revealed that he had his share of tough times, but he never complained. Pratt spent a period being homeless in Maui, working minimal hours just to afford the basics like gas, food, and fishing supplies. He recalls those days as a “charming time.” His perspective on his early struggles is positive, which is why he was able to overcome them and achieve success.
Born to hardworking parents in Virginia, Minnesota, Pratt and his two siblings were raised in a home that knew the value of hard work. Chris Pratt is currently married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, daughter of action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, and is enjoying his time in the spotlight.
