Shakira Makes History: Shakira became the first South American artist to win Tuesday’s Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
The Grammy-winning singer returned to the MTV VMAs at the Prudential Center in Newark after 17 years. Shakira performed a 10-minute English-Spanish medley with electrifying zeal from her career. It included “She Wolf,” “Te Felicito,” and “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” which went viral and shattered records. Wyclef Jean, known for “Hips Don’t Lie,” choreographed and performed.
On September 12, Shakira performed at the MTV Video Music Awards 2023 at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Shakira acknowledged the outstanding women who helped her grow her career while doing other things. It was an emotional moment during her award ceremony. She also thanked her two boys, Milan (9) and Sasha (7), for always believing in her numerous talents.
Shakira considered this an important event and wanted to give this award to her fans, who have supported her throughout her career. “Thank you for joining my army and fighting with me.” I made you this.”
Shakira received the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and The Beatles also won.
Shakira was nominated for four VMAs this year, including Artist of the Year and best collaboration for “TQG” with Karol G. Four VMAs for her.
She began her career in 2000 with the International Viewer’s Choice (Latin America North) Moon Person award.
The Colombian singer became the first female vocalist to reach the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 with a Spanish-language single ‘BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53’ and ‘TQG,’ featuring Karol G.
Shakira and Alejandro Sanz sang ‘La Tortura’ in Spanish during the 2005 VMAs, making history. She last sang “Hips Don’t Lie.” with Wyclef Jean at the 2006 VMAs.
