Disney Delays Snow White Live-Action Amid Controversy

Disney Delays Snow White: Disney made an announcement on Friday, choosing to push back the release of its live-action rendition of Snow White by a year. This decision follows critical remarks from the lead actress about the original movie, and as the Daily Wire unveils its own project titled Snow White and the Evil Queen.

Originally scheduled to hit the screens on March 22, 2024, the Disney live-action adaptation is now slated for release on March 21, 2025. David Webb directs the film, with a screenplay crafted by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.

Rachel Zegler, the actress portraying “Snow White” in Disney’s upcoming live-action spectacle, openly expressed her discontent with the 1937 animated classic. “There’s a substantial emphasis on her romance with a man who essentially stalks her. Bizarre! Just bizarre,” Zegler shared. “So, we’ve taken a different approach this time around.” She also quipped about Andrew Burnap’s role as Prince Charming, suggesting humorously, “It’s Hollywood, baby. Who knows if those scenes will make the final cut.”

“It’s not 1937 anymore,” Ziegler asserted in another interview. “She’s not dreaming of true love; she’s dreaming of stepping into the role of a leader, the leader she knows she can be.”

Meanwhile, David Hand, whose father collaborated with Walt Disney in directing the 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film, strongly criticized the “woke” remake. “It’s an entirely different concept, and I completely disagree with it. My father and Walt would have vehemently disagreed as well,” Hand stated during an interview with the Telegraph.

“They alter the narratives, they manipulate the mindset of the characters, these just aren’t the original stories anymore. They’re inventing new ‘woke’ elements, and I’m just not a fan of any of that,” Hand continued. “There’s a lack of reverence for what Disney and my father accomplished. . . . I believe both Walt and he would be rolling in their graves.”

In a recent announcement, the conservative media outlet Daily Wire revealed its plans to bring the Brothers Grimm fairytale to life with a live-action film titled Snow White and the Evil Queen. The movie, set for a 2024 release, will star Brett Cooper, a notable conservative commentator associated with Daily Wire.

“I was raised on the original Grimms’ Fairy Tales, so I’m thrilled that we’re bringing this iconic story to life for the next generation!” said Cooper. “Snow White is such a captivating character, and it’s an honor to portray her. Like all the timeless fairy tales, this story embodies enduring values such as love, friendship, and kindness, and I am eager to share these virtues with the audience.”

The Hollywood Reporter pointed to the ongoing actors’ strike as a potential reason for Disney’s delayed release.
