Marvel Multiverse Unveiled: A Cinematic Odyssey

Marvel Multiverse Unveiled: The debate over what’s considered canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has long stirred passionate discussions among fans. Does a show like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which made references to the Avengers, truly belong in the MCU canon? And what about the Netflix series like Daredevil, which frequently mentions superheroes like Captain America and Thor? Fortunately, we now have a definitive answer from the man in charge, Kevin Feige.

In his introduction to the book “Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe—An Official Timeline,” Feige provided some much-needed clarity

“In short, everything featuring Marvel characters, regardless of its production source, contributes to a diverse timeline within the extensive Marvel Multiverse. Some instances were already known. The Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man films and the Marc Webb-helmed Amazing Spider-Man series? They were officially embraced by No Way Home as part of the Multiverse. Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness confirmed the inclusion of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and Deadpool 3 is set to canonize Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Even if they represent variants of the Fox X-Men films, this acknowledgment expands the scope of the entire Multiverse.

Furthermore, with glimpses of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parkers in Across the Spider-Verse, along with Donald Glover reprising his MCU role as the Prowler, even animated films contribute to the expansive tapestry of the MCU Multiverse. Who knows if films like Ang Lee’s Hulk or Sony’s Ghost Rider series will become part of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars? Jennifer Garner’s appearance as Elektra in Deadpool 3 suggests that anything is now possible. Perhaps even Howard the Duck. After all, stranger things have happened.”

Marvel Multiverse Unveiled (2)

As of now, the MCU stands as the highest-grossing film franchise in history, with an astounding $29 billion in total earnings. To put it into perspective, the second-ranking franchise, Star Wars, lags far behind with $10 billion. But if we include pre-Marvel Studios films in the MCU’s scope, those numbers would skyrocket. The Fox mutant franchise alone contributes an additional $10 billion. The non-MCU Spider-Man films have brought in around $8 billion combined. Even the Fantastic Four movies have amassed a collective $800 million. With a couple of Blade films in the mix, we’re talking about a franchise that has raked in roughly $50 billion. Undoubtedly, it’s the most remarkable success story in the annals of Hollywood. Such a record may never be surpassed in our lifetime. In the meantime, fans eagerly anticipate the showdown between Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire, all while Deadpool chuckles at the spectacle.
