Marvels Daredevil Born Again Undergoes Creative Transformation with New Showrunner and Directors

Marvels Daredevil Born Again: Dario Scardapane, known for his work on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Netflix’s The Punisher, has been appointed as the new showrunner for Daredevil Born Again, a series currently undergoing a creative overhaul.

Furthermore, the co-directing team of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, celebrated for their work on indie genre thrillers and recent contributions to Loki season two, have been selected to helm the remaining episodes comprising the first season of the show, set to air on Disney+.

Daredevil: Born Again was in the midst of production in New York when a strike by writers and actors forced a pause. After reviewing the footage, Marvel decided to change creative direction. Chris Ord and Matt Corman, who were leading the project as head writers, have since departed.

Daredevil is a longstanding Marvel creation and previously had three successful seasons on Netflix in the mid-2010s, featuring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer turned superhero. The series was renowned for its action and gritty violence, and Marvel aimed to return to the tone of the original series.

Marvel intends to retain some scenes and episodes that have already been filmed, while other serialized elements will be integrated into the new storyline. Scardapane will be responsible for crafting the new episodes and scenes while incorporating the existing footage.

Benson and Moorhead will direct the new episodes to bring the first season to a close, though the exact number of episodes remains undisclosed. Corman and Ord will take on executive producer roles.

This appointment of a showrunner is part of Marvel’s broader transformation in its television production approach. The company has shifted to a model that embraces traditional TV concepts such as showrunners, pilots, and series bibles.

Benson and Moorhead, known for their cult hits The Endless, Spring, and Synchronic, have made their mark with their multi-talented roles in filmmaking, including writing, directing, producing, and more. They have directed episodes of Marvel’s Moon Knight and Loki.

Scardapane, a former journalist turned screenwriter, boasts significant TV experience in the thriller genre. He has worked on projects like Trauma and The Bridge, and more recently, was a writer and consulting producer on Amazon’s Jack Ryan series.

Benson and Moorhead are represented by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham, while Scardapane is represented by WME and Entertainment 360.
