STAYC Wardrobe Surprise: From Texas Rangers to Glasgow’s Soccer Glory

STAYC Wardrobe Surprise: When it comes to connecting with local fans, wearing the jersey of the hometown sports team is a surefire way to win hearts. However, K-pop girl group STAYC found themselves in a bit of a wardrobe mix-up during their show in Dallas last Thursday.

STAYC has been donning the uniforms of various American sports teams during their ‘Teenfresh’ world tour. For example, they sported Bears and Bulls kits while performing in Chicago and Yankees and Mets gear in Brooklyn. However, things took an unexpected turn during their stop in Texas.

While four members of the group successfully wore Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks attire, there was a minor blunder on the baseball front. Two members, Sumin and Isa, aimed to pay homage to the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers have reached the World Series for the first time since 2011, having defeated their in-state rivals, the Houston Astros, in a thrilling seven-game American League Championship Series.

However, in a surprising twist, Sumin and Isa ended up wearing shirts from the Rangers soccer team, based in Glasgow, Scotland, which is over 4,000 miles away. The retro shirts they sported were from the 1996/97 season when the Glasgow Rangers triumphed in both the Scottish Premiership and the League Cup, leaving a lasting mark in the hearts of their fans.

Although the mix-up was unintentional and no prior connection existed between STAYC and the Scottish club, the incident surprisingly received positive reactions from Rangers fans online. It appears that a little cross-cultural mix-up can add a touch of unexpected charm to a K-pop performance.

This isn’t the first time K-pop and Glasgow’s soccer scene have crossed paths. In 2018, the jersey of Rangers’ arch-rival, Celtic, made an appearance in the music video for boy band Stray Kids’ ‘My Piece.’

STAYC, an acronym for ‘Star to a Young Culture,’ made their debut in 2020 and has been making waves globally. They even reached the top 10 of the US charts with their single ‘Run2U’ in March, and their ‘Teenfresh’ EP reached the 14th spot on the Album charts. The unique fashion mix-up in Dallas adds another unexpected chapter to their global journey.
