Suzanne Somers Final Journey: Suzanne Somers husband, Alan Hamel, unveiled a touching detail about her final resting attire a pair of Timberland boots etched with their life’s essence.
“Suzanne never had boots for rock hiking, so I ordered the Timberland boots,” Hamel, 87, exclusively shared with PEOPLE.
“I personalized them with words that echoed our journey, making them uniquely Suzanne Hamel explained, detailing the heartfelt touch he added to the footwear.
Somers, who passed away on Oct. 15 due to breast cancer, had an extensive collection of “manolo blahniks,” yet for Hamel, it wasn’t about predictability. “It wouldn’t have been personal to have her wear those for her final journey,” he revealed.
“Every time she wore the Timberlands, she’d say, ‘I am walking with you, and these boots will keep me safe.'”
Hamel disclosed their longstanding routine of an “early morning” hike near their mountainous residences in Malibu and Palm Springs, where Somers’ go-to boots became an integral part of their ritual.
“We’d hike to a mountain top, find a warm sun-soaked rock by a creek,” Hamel recalled. “After lunch and a one-hour nap, we’d trek back down and get to work.”
Surrounded by Hamel, son Bruce, and close family at the time of her passing, Somers, known for her role in Three’s Company, passed away a day before her 77th birthday.
“We toasted Suzanne last night, 12 of us, remembering her,” Hamel shared. “Today will likely involve a lot of cake Suzanne adored cake.”
To honor Somers’ remarkable life and Hollywood career, her closest friends and family gathered on Nov. 30, celebrating her legacy. Additionally, a second memorial will be held in Somers’ hometown of San Bruno, California, with details to be shared later this month by the family.
