Tammy Faye Musical Set: The Broadway premiere of “Tammy Faye,” the musical inspired by the life of 1980s televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, has been confirmed for the 2024-25 season. Producers Rocket Stage, Greene Light Stage, and James L. Nederlander announced the move from London’s Almeida Theatre to a yet-to-be-revealed Nederlander Theatre on Broadway.

The creative team includes Elton John providing the music, Scissor Sisters‘ Jake Shears contributing lyrics, and James Graham crafting the book. Rupert Goold, known for directing Graham’s “Ink,” will helm the production, with Lynne Page as the choreographer.

The musical, which had its world premiere at London’s Almeida Theatre in Fall 2022, received four Olivier Award nominations, including Best Musical. The story revolves around Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker, who transformed religion from their South Carolina studio, preaching 24/7 to millions. Tammy aims to inject joy back into faith, but a new wave of ministers seeks to bring God not just into hearts but homes, schools, and the law.

The Broadway creative team also includes Tom Deering for music supervision, arrangements, and additional music, Bunny Christie for scenic design, Katrina Lindsay for costume design, Neil Austin for lighting design, Bobby Aitken for sound design, and Finn Ross for video design.

Elton John, known for his contributions to musicals like “The Lion King” and “Billy Elliot the Musical,” continues his collaboration with the theater. Jake Shears, of Scissor Sisters fame, previously worked on “Tales of the City,” and his Broadway performance includes starring as Charlie Price in “Kinky Boots.” Currently, he is making his West End debut as the Emcee in the revival of “Cabaret.”
