Bradley Cooper‘s Maestro, a biopic capturing the life of West Side Story composer Leonard Bernstein, secured a nomination for Best Motion Picture, Drama. Cooper and his co-star Carey Mulligan, known for her Broadway appearances in The Elephant Man and Skylight, received acting nominations, with Cooper earning an additional nod for Best Director.
The movie adaptation of The Color Purple missed out on a Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy nomination. The film Past Lives, penned by Endlings playwright Celine Song, garnered a nomination for Best Motion Picture, Drama, while Song herself received nods for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
In other categories, the Broadway-centric third season of Only Murders in the Building received a nomination for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Meryl Streep also secured acting nominations for their roles in the show. Imelda Staunton, known for her remarkable stage performances, was nominated for her role in The Crown, and Timothée Chalamet earned a nomination for his singing performance in the movie musical Wonka.
