Legal Victory: Kelly Clarkson Awarded 2.6M dollar as Commissioner Rules Against Ex-Husband

Kelly Clarkson Awarded 2.6M dollar: In the latest legal development between Kelly Clarkson and her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, a California labor commissioner has ruled against Blackstock for overstepping his managerial role. The commissioner ordered him to pay Clarkson $2,641,374 for unlawfully securing deals that should have been handled by a talent agent. Despite Blackstock’s legal team filing an appeal, the ruling emphasizes a breach of the Talent Agencies Act.

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, Clarkson’s lawsuit detailed Blackstock’s involvement in securing contracts for her, including projects like The Voice, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Norwegian Cruise Line, Wayfair, and the Billboard Music Awards. The ruling specified that while Blackstock did not overstep as a manager with The Kelly Clarkson Show contract, the other deals should have been managed by Clarkson’s team at Creative Artists Agency.

The Talent Agencies Act prohibits managers from procuring employment for artists, and the commissioner’s decision highlights Blackstock’s receipt of commissions for these deals. The amounts include $1,983,155.70 for The Voice coaching role, $208,125 for the NCL promotional deal, $450,000 for the Wayfair collaboration, and $93.30 for hosting the Billboard Music Awards—all now to be reimbursed to Clarkson.
