Mickey Mouse Slasher Film Unleashed: ‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap’ Brings Horror to the Magical Realm

Mickey Mouse Slasher Film: On the day Disney’s 1928 short film, “Steamboat Willie,” entered the public domain, a chilling trailer has surfaced for a horror comedy titled “Mickey Mouse Trap,” starring none other than Mickey Mouse as the antagonist.

The movie’s synopsis sets the stage for suspense: “It’s Alex’s 21st birthday, but stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift, her friends plan a surprise. However, a masked killer, dressed as Mickey Mouse, initiates a deadly game they must survive.”

The trailer unfolds with someone clad in a Mickey Mouse costume, reminiscent of Steamboat Willie, donning a hockey jersey, attacking a victim within a Chuck E. Cheese-like venue, echoing elements from last year’s horror hit “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” The film exhibits self-awareness similar to “Scream,” with characters predicting their fate, as one warns, “I’ll be right back,” only to meet a grim demise.

The words “A place for fun, a place for friends, a place for hunting. The mouse is out” add an ominous touch to the atmosphere. Directed by Jamie Bailey, the film embraces the absurdity of Mickey Mouse turning into a murderous character, with Bailey stating, “We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean, it’s Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it, and I think it shows.”

The cast includes Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek, and Simon Phillips. Produced by Paul Whitney, Mark Popejoy, Alexander Gausman, and Andrew Agopsowicz, with Filmcore’s Mem Ferda co-producing.

While a release date is pending, the producers target March. Distribution details remain unclear. “Mickey Mouse Trap” follows last year’s horror film “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” emerging from the public domain status of A.A. Milne’s original Winnie the Pooh two years ago. As Tigger also enters the public domain this year, the world of public domain characters takes a dark and unexpected turn.
