Mickey Mouse Slasher Film: On the day Disney’s 1928 short film, “Steamboat Willie,” entered the public domain, a chilling trailer has surfaced for a horror comedy titled “Mickey Mouse Trap,” starring none other than Mickey Mouse as the antagonist.
The movie’s synopsis sets the stage for suspense: “It’s Alex’s 21st birthday, but stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift, her friends plan a surprise. However, a masked killer, dressed as Mickey Mouse, initiates a deadly game they must survive.”
The trailer unfolds with someone clad in a Mickey Mouse costume, reminiscent of Steamboat Willie, donning a hockey jersey, attacking a victim within a Chuck E. Cheese-like venue, echoing elements from last year’s horror hit “Five Nights at Freddys.” The film exhibits self-awareness similar to “Scream,” with characters predicting their fate, as one warns, “I’ll be right back,” only to meet a grim demise.
The words “A place for fun, a place for friends, a place for hunting. The mouse is out” add an ominous touch to the atmosphere. Directed by Jamie Bailey, the film embraces the absurdity of Mickey Mouse turning into a murderous character, with Bailey stating, “We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean, it’s Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it, and I think it shows.”
